Stop Frame Animation Tester

Today I did a test shoot of my strop frame animation of my scrabble pieces spelling out 'lonely'. The object of this was to experiment with it, and to see what I can improve on for my final version of it, such as the background for my final one I think I will use a plain background like white or back. another improvement is my focus of the frame and the size as on this video I didn't like that each frame was at a different size or angle. I used iMovie and a nikon camera to produce this, and have used vimeo to present it on my blog.

Feedback For My Music Video Pitch

Overall the feedback I received shows that the audience likes the matching of lyrics to visuals, the choice of locations and the use of props I will be using. In my plan I am going to use a variety of different shots and transitions to make my music video. In my feedback I also received how I could improve my music video, as I need to consider the extra lighting in some scenes such as the location in the café and barn, also in my editing I need to make sure that it is quick and fits in with the song to match the lyrics to visuals, so the lip syncing is in time. Another factor that was suggested was to make sure I have plenty of time to organise and capture my stop frame animation.

To present this I have used smile box to show this.

Storyboard Draft

Storyboard Draft, a set on Flickr.

I have used Flickr to present my storyboard draft. It includes a sketch of the visual i would like in my music video, the type of shot, the lighting conditions or the effects, props and actions in each shot. When I start to begin filming I may have to consider problems that may occur in the process of making my music video such as weather conditions, characters not being able to film, props that may not go well in reality. Also when I will be doing a specific scene such as the disappearing of the performer or the arrangement of lips I want to use in a verse, I may have to think of other possibilities because things may not be portrayed, as I would like them to due to the lack of props and characters or it may not go as planned in my story board.

Costume - Make Up / Props Ideas

Rigsby's Cafe / Guest House Location Shots

These are photos I have taken for parts of my music video, like the cafe and outside a town guest house in hertford. These resemble parts of the scenes in my lyrics such as 'Table for one please' and the 'Cake' these will all be filmed in this place, the lighting conditions are good although to make it a bit better I shall be adding in extra lighting to stand out the features that are important in the specific scene.

Barn & Cottage Location Shots

These are photos I have taken for parts of my music video, such as outside the cottage and the barn attic, these places are to represent the lyrics to visuals in my music video. The barn resembles the 'Lonely/Empty' room that is in the lyrics, the only problem I had with this was due to lighting conditions as it does have very low lighting and to solve this I will need to add extra light to highlight the artist and to be able to clearly film. The other photos resemble another part of lyrics 'My muter and my vater don't invite me home' this is where I want the artist to stand and watch through the window her parents 'ignoring' her.

Garden Location Shots

Below are some photos I have taken of the possible locations shots I will use. I have chosen these types of locations to shoot for my music video because they are accessible to use in the time I will be filming and won’t delay any filming time I will have. I have chosen for my filming to be mostly outdoors in daylight as there will be no problems with low lighting conditions when I am filming. In my garden I will able to shoot in an open area and I will have the space to expand when I am shooting. The different areas of my garden shoots will take place in the front and back garden, outside the house and around the lake. These are the places that suit best for capturing my visuals in my music video such as the picnic scene and the opening verse. I have also taken photos of back drops the singer could use in the background when singing 'Evacuate' this is so that it ties in with the theme of the music video.

This is my screen shot of my email to my artist that I will be using in my music video. I used Myspace to communicate with her where she gave me permission to use and song and to appear in my music video

Artist - The Ghost Of Samantha

The artist I will be using for my music video is called The Ghost Of Samantha who is currently unsigned. She is only  fifteen years old and from Kimpton, Hertfordshire. I have chosen her because she has a very unique style and voice. Samantha composes and writes all of her own songs. I like the way she puts real life in to her lyrics so people can relate to them. The song that I have chosen from her's is called Evacuate. Samantha has played at varies different shows such as charity events at paradise wildlife park and Waltham cross. Samantha has given me permisson to use her song, and also have agreed to perform in the music video.

Here is a poster/flyer of a performance The Ghost of the Samantha will be performing at, which will be held later this year at the Hatfield forum. This is for a underage night, who targets at under 18's. In this gig their will be many different things for the audience to do such as a recording booth, foam party, photo booth and UV face painting.Samantha was able to take part in this as this was one of her prizes for winning a talent show called 3music, from this she has been able to appear on jack fm and have had her photo in local news paper to promote
her up coming gigs.

Examples of music videos: Camus and the Cat - Restless Night

I have chosen these music videos as they link to the type of genre to my chosen artist I have picked to use in my music video. I like how these videos are 'indie' as they look simple yet effective with the editing they have used in the video. These have inspired me to think of ideas such as lighting, location, editing, camera angles and the style of costume I would like to portray in my music video.

  • In the Camus and the cat video they filmed in a woods, which I felt that I could experiment with different, location for my video for which looks best and suited my video and lyrics the best. I also liked the use of costume for example the character dressed as a bear running through the woods. From this I thought of my lyrics “I had a picnic with a wasp” and maybe have a person dress up as a wasp and play that character, showing visuals to lyrics. Although I did not like how the video's location and characters were very limited and that it didn't seem creative.

  • The second music video by Jose Vanders, the video was themed in a ship. I like how the artist gave eye contact to the audience as if she is singing directly to you in some parts of the video. I also liked the use of editing, for example when the some of the characters changed T-Shirt colours and on the change it went with the beat. In the editing they also added different colours for the background or were projected on the character’s faces and again was to match with the beat.

  • In the Daisy Dares you I chose this because of the use of props used in the music video. The main theme in this was Alice and wonderland, they add objects such as ‘drink me’ bottles and like the Camus and the cat video they had a person dressed up in a white rabbit costume. Another reason why I picked this video was because of the choice of costume for the artist, they were fun and floaty dresses with bit of leather and big boots giving a hint of rock. I also liked the tea party scene and the use of props for this part of the video.
